Religion was a binding and comforting standard throughout time. It
started wars and ultimately ended them and caused turbulence and at the same
time caused peaceful relationships between two or more identities. But now it
seems Religion is more used for as an excuse more than a peaceful factor. But
then again what was Religions goal to even begin with? If you believe in
religion you might say that is was to bring the masses to follow the one true
god and to unite god’s people, if you are not a believer you think it was just
natural for religion to come about due to people’s interest in what comes after
death and the power it comes with. Both point are completely valid and should
be treated as such as if you do not think this you are closed minded and should
stop reading here and comment below with your atheist or religious rant (I will
publish it). Religion cannot be proven or fully disproven, so therefore you
should be open to the other person’s ideas and this is why we have these atheist
vs believers arguments; people will not be open to either side even existing.
If something cannot be proven or fully disproven you are doing yourself a disservice
to not even consider where the other side is coming from. Respect all, not just
people of your religion, or lack of one, but everyone.
Simple lack of respect and
understanding is the reason why we humans fall over time and time again not
learning from our mistakes when it comes to Religion. Almost no religion is
spared from bloodshed, from Christianity to Animism, they are all guilty of tragic
wars and killings in the name of their God, and if that is really true, that is
one person I don’t want to meet. The greatest irony is Satanist I can say for
fact has killed millions less people than the two largest religions, Islam and
Christianity. While the average Satanist is despicable should we not compare
the religions by death count and hold them accountable for some of the worst atrocities
human kind has ever seen?
Religion
how you look at it has good days and bad. Religion is the only common factor
throughout time and binds and separates us as humans more than anything the world
has ever seen even outpacing race and sexual orientation in modern times. Its
good does not come without its bad. Sometimes I feel as if religion as a whole
is just a tool for an excuse or as a legitimate
reason to wreak havoc on the world, need I mention ISIS, the crusades, holocaust,
witch trials. In modern time’s religion, particular Christianity, has been
teaching tolerance which is a great step forward while others have been bombing
and fighting each other. Christianity is the progressive’s religion they have
been adapting and changing with the world almost as fast as the world changes
around them. Sometimes they don’t get enough credit, but still does not atone
for their sins in the past. One of the greatest threats religions has brought
up, other than war, is ignorance, and Atheists do not have a break from this
either. Atheists are sometimes just as ignorant as other religions. Religion
teaches ignorance in my opinion as a form of defense for its believers to not
be persuaded by the “devil” and be punished with Hell. Personally I would never
join anything that would punish me for thinking differently than it, as it is a
scare tactic to scare people into believing. But to teach people to not be open
to other possibilities is once again a disservice to the person as an intellectual
being. To close one’s mind is as to an effect closing one’s mind to learning at
all. Religion must teach it’s believers to be open minded when it comes to the
world or we will end up in a metaphorical iron box with no escape but only to
find us not wanting to leave in fear of what is outside of the box.
Discussion Point- Is religion still relevant in modern society?
Discussion Point- This
brings to me another point, should religion be taken seriously?
Discussion Point- Should religion conform to science? If not why?

Wow great job, this makes me feel bad about mine. (haha). i like how you have different tabs to click on for certain information!
ReplyDeleteVery informative article, Many excellent angles. It really made me rethink my feelings about religion and the world in general. The tab idea was very creative and unique. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of your points. All I want to say to you is to not think about faith. Forget what anyone thinks after death. What I mean is, "Think where you are now, HOW ARE YOU HERE? I don't believe religion wreaks havoc on society. If any religion does, it is the intolerant or extremist people. I believe that if we should be against any religion threatening our lives I believe it is the intolerant religions. When it comes to religion, I believe that it offers you more rights than society because it helps you live a life of faith and comfort. If we choose to not follow our religion, sometimes we do, what happens? We go to jail and get punished,
